AFT-NH Stands in Solidarity With First Student Bus Drivers

Bow, NH - November 16, 2016:  The American Federation of Teachers-NH President, Douglas Ley,  released the following statement regarding the ongoing contract negotiations between Teamsters Local 633 and First Student Bus Company.

“AFT-NH stands in solidarity with our brothers and sisters at Teamsters Local #633 as they attempt to resolve the contract dispute with First Student Bus Company”, stated Doug Ley, AFT-NH President. “We encourage our members throughout the state to offer full support to Teamsters Local #633 as they try to reach a resolution to their contract.”

Ley continued that, “Our members know that our school bus drivers are an essential part of the school team and are entrusted with and responsible for the safety of our most our precious cargo---our children. As many communities find it challenging to attract and retain quality school bus drivers, the company should step up to the plate to reach a reasonable contract with the union that protects their retirement security, meets the company’s obligations regarding negotiated retirement plans, and provides a fair compensation and benefits package. We stand with Teamsters Local #633. ”

AFT-NH represents approximately 4,000 teachers, school support staff, city and town employees, police officers, library employees, and higher education faculty. AFT-NH is a member of the New Hampshire AFL-CIO and is the state affiliate for the American Federation of Teachers with more than 3,000 local affiliates nationwide, 43 state affiliates, and more than 1.3 million members.
