Day of Action to Protect Our Kids

Day of Action to Protect Our Kids

The Trump administration wants to make painful cuts to education and healthcare in order to slash taxes for billionaires. The administration’s plan to “block grant” federal education programs and gut the U.S. Department of Education would rob 26 million students living in poverty of critical services and 7.5 million students with disabilities of special education support. It would eliminate career and technical education for 12 million students, threatening their future job opportunities. Slashing Medicaid and student loans could strip healthcare coverage from 10.3 million people and end access to student loans, making college unaffordable for another 10 million working-class families.  Please contact Congress today and tell them no cuts to education.

In New Hampshire these cuts would have a significant impact. Among other cuts in education, NH schools stand to lose funding in the following areas:

$51 million for Title I schools—which serve over 34,000 students—to guarantee every public school receives adequate funding and our kids have what they need to get ahead.

$62.3 million for 31,000 of our kids who receive help like speech services, reading support or other assistance to get to appropriate grade levels, to ensure accessibility for students with disabilities.

$6.7 million to ensure our schools are safe and teach life skills (through programs like career counseling), to set our kids up for success beyond the classroom.

$7 million for before- and after-school programs to support working parents and for clubs and sports to help our kids lead well-rounded lives.

$1 million to support students learning English.

$2 million for students enrolled in schools in rural communities.

By highlighting the harmful consequences of these attacks on public schools and students, we aim to build public pressure on policymakers and amplify the voices of those directly impacted.

Today, we ask you to join us in protecting our kids and their education by contacting Congress and tell them no cuts to education. If we all reach out as we advocate for public education and our students, our elected representatives will know we will never give up on our kids and their future.

Thank you for taking action.
