Statement from Debrah Howes, President, AFT‑NH
On Passage of HB 1792
On Passage of HB 1792
“By passing HB 1792, the House has turned its back on students, educators, and New Hampshire’s constitutional duty to ‘cherish’ public education. This bill censors honest teaching, undermines state academic standards, and revives the same vague, viewpoint‑based restrictions a federal court struck down in AFT Local 8027 v. Edelblut. It narrows curricula, chills educators, and makes classrooms less safe and inclusive—especially for LGBTQ+ students—while doing nothing to improve student learning. We urge the Senate to reject HB 1792 and protect every Granite State student’s right to a rigorous, accurate, constitutional public education.”
