AFT-NH Legislative Bulletin (April 10, 2026)

Need for Action on Open Enrollment – Oppose SB 101

Contact Governor Ayotte

We now have less than two months until the end of the legislative session. We will see more bills being voted on by their committees and then by the full House or Senate in the coming weeks as they get through the rest of the bills.

This upcoming activity includes bills like SB 101 (Open Enrollment) which will have a committee vote this week and then a full vote of the House in the coming weeks after that. Two public hearings were held on the amendment to SB 101 and the opposition was overwhelming. Online testimony submissions show resounding opposition with 2,174 opposed versus 75 in support. If you have not contacted the Governor yet on SB 101, please do so here.

Please let Governor Ayotte know that SB 101 will gut your school budget. No to SB 101.

Other Important Action Needed. Please sign in and oppose the following bills. Directions to sign in are provided below.

HB 1575 relative to the determination of the default budget by the budget committee which takes the default budget determination away from school boards and select boards who better understand what a default budget must be in order for the community to function. The bill will be heard before the Senate Election Law and Municipal Affairs Committee on Tuesday, April 14th at 10:15am AFT-NH opposes this bill

HB 1793, prohibiting public colleges and universities from regulating the possession or carrying of firearms and non-lethal weapons on campus which allows guns on college campuses. This bill does not do anything to curb gun violence on campuses but will make it harder for police and security officers to keep everyone safe.  The bill will be heard before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday, April 14th at 1:45pm. AFT-NH opposes this bill

CACR 12, relates to voting on broad-based taxes. Providing that a supermajority vote of the general court shall be required to enact any broad-bases taxes, which stops an income tax without a supermajority vote of the legislature. No one here is advocating for an income tax in New Hampshire; however, this bill is a political stunt meant to distract from the fact that the legislature has repeatedly given tax cuts to the wealthy and big corporations while failingto do its job of funding our schools, leaving property taxpayers with an ever-growing bill. This bill will be heard before the House Ways and Means Committee on Wednesday, April 15th at 3pm at Reps. Hall. AFT-NH opposes this bill

Thank you for taking action on these very important bills. Please also review the list below for upcoming hearings on other priority bills.

And please be sure to contact the Governor and ask her to oppose SB 101. Please let Governor Ayotte know that SB 101 will gut your school budget. No to SB 101.
