AFT-NH Legislative Bulletin (February 14, 2026)

Urgent Action Still Needed on Union-Busting HB 1704

and HB 751 (Open Enrollment)

Two Urgent Actions Needed

Legislative activity is moving along at a fast clip. There were two victories this week when HB 1122 and HB 1830 were defeated. These bills would have required teaching about firearms in our schools would have been required. You registered your opposition and more bad legislation was defeated. Your voices were heard. When we fight together, we win.

There are countless hearings next week as well as executive sessions when bills will be voted out of committee. Please review our tracker to find our recommendations and the dates and times of hearings and executive session.

Please see the list below for our recommendations on supporting or opposing key legislation. Our tracker at the end of the bulletin shows the  bills we are following for next week and where they are in the process.

Attack on Collective Bargaining for Public Employees

HB 1704, the attack on public employees’ collective bargaining rights and your union rights came out of committee with an Ought to Pass Recommendation and will go to the floor as early as this week .We need to engage on this bill right until the vote.  The vote of every single state representative will matter and we need you to contact your state representative(s) through the one-click action below. Protect your rights, your contract, and working conditions. We encourage everyone to reach out to their representatives by clicking the following link: We need our representatives to understand that this is union-busting and will cause chaos in the workplace. This bill will also add significant expenses to local employers thus causing higher property.

ONE-CLICK ACTION    Please stop the attack on public employees - NO to HB 1704.

Open Enrollment

HB 751-FN Open enrollment could fundamentally change our neighborhood schools and expose local property taxpayers to unpredictable costs and increase in property taxes. Granite Staters across the state, including school board members, educators, parents, and administrators are speaking out against this disastrous policy that would allow the parent of any child that lives in a public school district to send that child to any other public school in the state and makes the resident district pay for itHB 751-FN can be voted on at any time by the full house.  It is referred to a Committee of Conference but we need to maintain constant outreach to our elected officials. Take our action and tell the House to vote NO on open enrollment. Please contact your representative now to Oppose HB 751.

Before proceeding, please take the two urgent actions above.

Please sign in and register your opinion on bills when they are scheduled for hearing. The number of people who sign in and the totals are read out loud and are part of the record. Your action can make a difference.

Thank you.
