AFT-NH Legislative Bulletin (March 6, 2026) ACTION NEEDED

Public Employee Union Rights Scheduled for a Vote – ACTION Needed

Next week will be a big week for public education on the House floor. The union-busting HB 1704 will finally be voted along with a large number of other significant bills.  Our two significant priority bills requiring action are listed below. Please take a moment to weigh in on these requested actions.

Town Meeting Day - VOTE

Tuesday is an important day for schools across our state. AFT-NH local members have spent months negotiating collective bargaining agreements which will be presented to the voters. Please refer to our AFT-NH TOWN MEETING GUIDE to see how you can support our members. Every vote counts.

Protect Public Employee Bargaining

HB 1704: The bill that looks to weaken or destroy your bargaining power. It will hurt your union and make it harder for you to protect your contract and diminish your negotiating power in the future. Corruption by the Speaker has kept this bill from getting a vote until this week but it will get one next week. Even if you have taken action before, please do it again since there has been such a delay. AFT-NH Opposes this Bill

Action    Contact your state representative now and tell them to Vote Inexpedient to Legislate on HB 1704.

Stop Yet Another Attack on Schools and Local Control

HB 1300: Creates a ballot question on the November ballot to create local tax caps for education. After failing to do this early this year, they are back trying to again, undermining New Hampshire’s town meeting tradition and politicize education funding instead of looking out for what is best for New Hampshire students.  AFT-NH Opposes this Bill

Action     Contact your state representative now and tell them to Vote No on HB 1300

Classroom Censorship Bill Scheduled for Public Hearing.

Up for a hearing next week on Tuesday at 10:30 in the Senate is HB 1792, the classroom censorship bill. HB 1792 is rambling and incoherent and has no business becoming law. AFT-NH Opposes this bill. Please sign in to the committee portal and register your opposition to the Committee. You can sign in here to register your opposition.

Please sign in and register your opinion on bills when they are scheduled for hearing. Bills scheduled for a public hearing are bolded in the tracker. If a bill is scheduled for executive session, testimony cannot be submitted. The number of people who sign in and the totals are read out loud and are part of the record. Your action can make a difference.

Thank you for standing up for public education and educators.
