Defeat HB 1300 and HB 1792
We are in the final few weeks of the legislative session. Next week there will be a number of votes in House and Senate committees as both bodies must finish their committee work by the end of the week.
Important votes that will take place next week in the House Education Policy Committee include:
SB 434 - A bill that would allow the banning of books or any school material that even one parent finds offensive.
SB 430 - A bill that further puts the teacher in the middle of the parent/student relationship and could erode the trust in our local neighborhood public schools.
SB 431 - A bill that attempts to “fix” the unconstitutional divisive concepts law, when the only way to fix it is to fully repeal it.
Action Needed
HB 1300 - In the Senate we are waiting for Senate Election Law and Municipal Affairs to act on HB 1300. As we said last week, HB 1300 requires that a tax cap for a local school budget will be on the November ballot every two years during the state and federal elections when voters are not focused on local issues. Local taxpayers can already vote to implement a tax cap locally. Proponents of this bill are choosing to ignore the will of voters in towns across the state where voters have rejected such caps.
Please take action. There's still time to contact committee members and ask them to vote Inexpedient to Legislate.
This week the Senate Education Committee also passed HB 1792. The bill began as
a classroom censorship bill aimed at banning so-called left-wing indoctrination in public schools. It has since been amended to mirror the Divisive Concepts law that was overturned after a lawsuit filed by AFT-NH and AFT. The court found the law to be unconstitutionally vague and prone to arbitrary enforcement. Passing nearly identical language again will not make it any more constitutional.

Please contact the State Senate and tell them to vote NO on HB 1792.
